Mrs. Cass has been a registered nurse for 53 years. During her career she has worked in many areas of nursing. She cared for the third heart transplant patient in the United States. She worked eye, ear and head and neck surgery, nursing home, quality of care and utilization review. At the end of her career she found her passion teaching diabetes education. Working on a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant she developed and implemented a training for Community Health Coaches to teach the diabetes curriculum she wrote. While working with a non-profit Mrs. Cass along with the County Extension Agent wrote a curriculum and presented healthy cooking classes. The Houston Food Bank hired Mrs. Cass to write a curriculum and train their food distribution sites to teach diabetes education. After retirement she is volunteering with the Christina Sullivan Foundation writing the Teaching Kitchen Program and teaching classes.
